Re: Survival skills, Welsh Tenors, and dancing across the generation gap

The latest from BBC South East Wales
------------------------------------------------------
*** SURVIVAL SKILLS ***

If you dream of getting back to nature and living like a castaway then Nick Gough's new survival courses on Flat Holm could be just up your street.  Nick spent a week on the island last July living off the land and sea and is offering to pass on his skills.

*** ON THE TENOR TRAIL ***

Why is it said that Wales has produced more tenors per head of population than any other country in the world? Tim Rhys Evans, musical director of Only Men Aloud, aims to find out why in a four part TV series for BBC Wales.  If you missed last night's first episode, watch it now on the BBC iPlayer.

*** BIG MATCH FEVER ***

Martyn Williams will lead Wales against Ireland on Saturday as he wins his 100th cap in the Six Nations clash at Croke Park (kick-off 2.30pm).   Meanwhile Cardiff City travel to Leicester City in the Championship on Saturday, and Newport County could clinch promotion with victory over Bishop's Stortford at Spytty Park on Friday night.  Follow all the action via our sports pages.

*** HOW WALES MOULDED AMERICA ***

An expert on Welsh migration to America is embarking on a prestigious lecture tour of the United States.  Dr Bill Jones from Cardiff University will visit major institutions including Harvard and Campbell Universities.  He'll also speak at the opening of an exhibition at the Scranton Anthracite Museum in Pennsylvania largely based on his research into Welsh migration.

*** LAMBING LIVE ***

Have you been following events at Great Tre-Rhiw Farm near Abergavenny?    Lambing Live with Kate Humble and Adam Henson continues tonight and Thursday on BBC Two Wales at 8pm.   You can also see the previous programmes on BBC iPlayer.

*** NOT SO RUBBISH AFTER ALL ***

Two young TV producers from south Wales are celebrating the fact that their first ever series - Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience - is being shown on BBC TV across the UK after proving a hit in Wales.  Don't miss the latest chance to see the stand-up comedian try his hand at being a binman, childminder, hairdresser and soldier on BBC Two across the UK at 10pm tonight (Wednesday).

*** VALLEYS NO OASIS FOR MEG ***

Noel Gallagher's ex-wife Meg Mathews swaps her celebrity lifestyle to live on less than £10 a day in Ebbw Vale.    See last night's first episode of Famous, Rich and Jobless on the BBC iPlayer, and see the conclusion tonight at 9pm on BBC One Wales.

*** DANCING ACROSS THE GENERATION GAP ***

Youngsters have been learning to waltz while older people tried hip hop in a project aimed at bridging the generation gap in Monmouthshire.  The "Break it Down" dance class in Abergavenny was part of an ongoing initiative by the Bryn-y-cwm Forum called Breaking Down Barriers.   Hear some of the participants talk to Roy Noble on BBC Radio Wales about the fun they've had.
