HARRI WEBB
Rampage & Revel
To the Shores of Patagonia
(1865)
It's goodbye to the land we love so well,
It's goodbye to our folks so kind,
We've risked our lives on the ocean swell
And we're leaving Wales behind.
Yes, we're taking leave of the land we love
A new world for to find,
And we put our trust in the Lord above
And we hope our fates will be kind
On the shores of Patagonia.
It's goodbye to the pits of Mountain Ash
And the streets of Caernarfon town
The loud gales howl and the high waves splash,
We may float or we may drown,
But we're sailing away from the landlord's lash
And the cruel coal-owners' frown
And though our decks are deep awash
May we safely be set down
On the shores of Patagonia.
Yes we left our homes and some may blame
That we didn't stay to fight,
But we're taking an ancient nation's name
To a land where the stars are bright,
Beyond the reach of the tyrants claws,
And there with all our might
We'll raise our flag, and freedom's cause
Will establish as of right
On the shores of Patagonia.
We're a long way out on the western wave,
Who have never sailed before
And as the screaming storm winds rave
How we long for a friendly shore.
But a new born child has cried aloud
To answer the blind gale's roar,
And we voyage on with hearts made proud,
For we know there'll be many more
On the shores of Patagonia.
