GERALD MORGAN.
In Pursuit of Saint David.
Patron Saint of Wales.
A Digest of Rhygyfarch's
Life of St David.
12-17) David is commanded to profit from his education by going on a mission. He founded twelve monasteries, at Glastonbury (he cleansed the hot springs of bath). Crowland (Lincolnshire), Repton (Derbyshire),Colfa and Glascwm (both in Powys), Leominster (Herefordshire), Raglan (Gwent) and Llangyfelach (Glamorgan) before returning to Vetus Rubus. In a vision he learned that he should move from there to somewhere more blest. So with three followers he moved to Vallis Rosina, called Hodnant by the Britons and he lit a fire there. The smoke was seen by Baia, the local tyrant, who foresaw David's power, and plotted with his wife to kill him, but in vain. Then Baia asked David's forgiveness and granted him Vallis Rosina for ever. But Baia's wife sent girls to wanton naked in front of the monks. They appealed to David to drive the girls away, but he bade them be strong.
